Drivers in Boulder take note: your commute through the downtown area might see some delays over the next month. Starting this Thursday, May 15, the City of Boulder jumps into a new round of infrastructure work focused on Canyon Boulevard and 11th Street. The project, which runs until June 13, is aimed at improving the sanitary sewer and stormwater utilities, a bid to safeguard the water quality of Boulder Creek.

The game plan calls for day work and, yes, there's no denying the dust this will kick up. Traffic will be a bit of a squeeze. Westbound lanes on Canyon Boulevard, from Broadway to 9th Street, are set to close during the construction period. Meanwhile, motorists will be threading the needle with one open lane in each direction on the eastbound side. The Penfield Tate II Municipal Building and Boulder Main Library Canyon Lot? You’ll be looking at right-turn-in and right-turn-out only access from the eastbound lane. And it’s not just any city affair. This local elbow grease lines up with a pavement rehab project by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) on tap nearby.

As obtained by the City of Boulder, Chris Douglas, Utilities Engineering Senior Manager, laid it out plainly. “We understand how impactful this type of work can be on our community members and downtown businesses,” he stated. Acknowledging the inconvenience, Douglas expressed gratitude for the community’s patience as they push through to "improve long-term utility service in downtown Boulder."
