In an effort to honor those who've served, Brentwood is moving forward with plans for a new veterans' memorial. This initiative, coming on the heels of Memorial Day, seeks to establish a monument that reflects the community's gratitude and respects the sacrifices made by its service members. Residents of Brentwood with a disposition toward civic engagement are encouraged to apply for a position on the committee charged with the memorial's creation, as per a recent announcement by the City of Brentwood commission.
Participation in this committee offers locals a chance at direct involvement in the commemorative process, as the group will be instrumental in shaping the memorial's design, cost-related considerations, and the coordination of fundraising efforts, and they will be preparing a project schedule but also they will draft parameters for the inclusion of individual veterans' names, which Jason Gage, Brentwood City Manager, underscored the importance of getting right, "This is something you want to get a lot of engagement, collaboration and input for," Gage told the City of Brentwood.
Applications for the six available resident committee positions can be submitted through the City of Brentwood's website until the cut-off time of noon on June 12. Following the application review process, appointments will be made during a commission meeting slated for June 23. This team will also include one city commissioner and one representative from the Brentwood Historic Commission.
The site selection for the veterans' memorial is incumbent upon the City Commission, information which will be provided to the committee, and while they have set an ambitious goal to complete the project by the end of 2026, the city hopes to have the memorial installed within an 18-month window which reflects both a respect for haste and a recognition of the memorial's significance; "The aggressive goal would be to have the entire project done by the end of 2026," Gage told the City of Brentwood, shedding light on the city's commitment to the timely realization of this endeavor.
