Brooklyn’s efforts against sex trafficking advanced with the indictment of eight individuals on charges including sex trafficking, conspiracy, and promoting prostitution. According to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced that the defendants—six men and two women—are accused of participating in a multi-state trafficking operation involving both minors and adults. The charges are detailed in a 19-count superseding indictment and a separate five-count indictment.

Among those charged are Mylord Williams of the Bronx, Terrel Chery of Nassau County, and Kinard Oliver of Brooklyn, who are alleged to be central figures in the trafficking network. Williams and Chery are being held without bail, while Oliver’s bail was set at $100,000 cash or $1 million bond. All three are scheduled to return to court on August 13. The investigation has since identified additional victims and three more defendants beyond the original charges filed earlier this year.

Key incidents include the alleged trafficking of a 17-year-old girl in Crown Heights in July 2022, where online ads were used for commercial sex and the proceeds were taken by the traffickers. Another case began in November 2024, when a 19-year-old woman in Wilmington, North Carolina, called 911 and reported being forced into prostitution across Brooklyn and North Carolina. Her report helped identify several of the accused.

The investigation involved the joint FBI-NYPD Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, with support from Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office investigators and law enforcement agencies from New York, North Carolina, and Virginia. Assistant District Attorneys Audrey Chao and David Weiss, along with Deputy Chief Mary E. Monahan of the Human Trafficking Unit, are leading the prosecution.

Law enforcement partners acknowledged in the case include officers from Wilmington, N.C., Henrico, VA, the Port Authority Police, New York State Police, and departments in Newark and Greene County. The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office has credited this multi-agency cooperation with advancing the case.
