In a recent development, Shao Tong Lian, a 41-year-old Brooklyn man, has been indicted on murder charges linked to the 2022 killing of 55-year-old Fang Chen, a Flushing woman. Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz reported that Lian is facing charges of murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, the former carrying a potential sentence of 25 years to life in prison if he is convicted.
The indictment, as presented by Katz, suggests Lian hired Chen for sexual services and, allegedly, murdered her shortly afterward. The specifics of the case reveal a brutal scene: on the night of August 25, 2022, at around 8:48 p.m., Lian entered Chen's apartment and was caught leaving the premises approximately 20 minutes later, according to Queens District Attorney's Office. "As alleged, this defendant arranged to pay the victim for sex and then brutally stabbed her to death less than 20 minutes after arriving at her apartment," Katz stated.
The following day, Chen's roommate discovered her body bearing multiple stab wounds and a blunt injury to the brain. The investigation connected Lian to the crime through DNA evidence left at the scene. Katz extended condolences to the Chen family, acknowledging the continued mourning for their loss.
Lian was arraigned before Queens Supreme Court Justice Ushir Pandit-Durant, who ordered his remand, with a court return date set for June 24. Assistant District Attorney Nicole Rella is assigned to prosecute the case, supported by Assistant District Attorney Veronika Podoprigora, under the supervision of Assistant District Attorneys John Kosinski, Bureau Chief, and Karen Ross, Deputy Bureau Chief, as well as Executive Assistant District Attorney for Major Crimes Shawn Clark.
