A tragic event unfolded on Highway 199 in Josephine County last Friday when William Robert Murphy, 37, of Cave Junction, met his untimely end in a motorcycle crash. Oregon State Police confirmed the accident occurred at approximately 9:08 a.m. near milepost 35, details of which were laid bare in a report issued by OSP.
The initial findings suggest that Murphy, while piloting his southbound Harley Davidson motorcycle, for reasons not yet clear, crossed the northbound lane, ventured into a pullout area and proceeded to leave the paved surface of the road ultimately his vehicle veered into a ditch, it was in this split turn of fate where he collided with a tree. Responders declared Murphy deceased at the crash site.
As a result of the mishap, traffic on Highway 199 was disrupted for about an hour while the investigation was conducted and the scene cleared and the Illinois Valley Fire Department and ODOT provided necessary assistance during this time.
