A recent string of business break-ins across northern Kent County has led to charges against a Cedar Springs man. According to information from the Kent County Sheriff's Office, Matthew Robinson, 49, has been connected to multiple burglaries in Plainfield and Algoma Townships that started in December 2024.
The investigation, which picked up after several local businesses experienced break-ins, identified a pattern leading authorities to suspect Robinson. Notably, when officers attempted to apprehend him, he led them on a chase, abandoning his vehicle in a gravel pit before attempting to flee on foot. He was found hiding in an open field, "lying in an open field," as FOX 17 reported.
Robinson's alleged burglaries began on December 28, 2024, and continued over four months. Following his arrest, he was arraigned on multiple charges related to the break-ins and his escape attempt from law enforcement. The Kent County Prosecutor’s Office authorized these charges on April 30. The information was reiterated in a Kent County Sheriff's Office social media post.
The investigation into these incidents is ongoing, and Robinson has been linked to additional crimes in the area.
