The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) will retire its Village Rider and Davidson Shuttle services starting July 7. These services will be replaced by CATS Micro, an on-demand, shared ride service for residents in Huntersville, Cornelius, and Davidson.

According to a recent announcement by the Charlotte Area Transit System, to support the transition, CATS will offer free rides on CATS Micro from next week's Sunday to Saturday. This allows riders to try the service before the official change takes place. CATS Micro provides point-to-point travel within specific North Mecklenburg service zones and follows standard local bus fare rates after the free period.

Riders can use the service by downloading the CATS-Pass app, selecting Plan, and entering their trip details. If the trip falls within a service zone and operating hours, CATS Micro will appear as a travel option. The expected wait time for ride requests is up to 30 minutes.

The introduction of CATS Micro in North Mecklenburg is part of a larger plan to launch 19 microtransit zones across the region. Charlotte Area Transit System aims to improve accessibility and responsiveness in public transportation through this new service model.
