Chatham County Public Libraries will launch their annual Summer Reading Program, themed "Color Our World," a free initiative designed to promote literacy and learning during summer break. Running from June 7 to August 2, the program invites children and teens across the county to participate in reading and educational activities while school is out.
All three branches—Chatham Community Library, Goldston Public Library, and Wren Memorial Library—are participating in the festivities, and they've stocked up on events as well as books, the generous sponsors here are the libraries' own Friends of the Libraries groups, without them, none of this vibrant summer palette of activities would be possible, their support makes it all the more inviting as each young participant not only gets to indulge in a universe of stories but is also gifted a free book to jumpstart their summer reading adventure, while supplies last of course.
A reading and activity log is the ticket to the grand prize drawing, with only a minimum of 10 hours of reading or 10 completed activities needed for entry. This isn't just about devouring words; it's about rewarding effort and celebrating the very act of learning, a hefty achievement once the goal is struck. In a statement obtained by Chatham County News, library officials expressed their hope: "to encourage kids to continue reading during the summer months and engage in fun, educational activities and events."
