Kim Moore of China Grove in Rowan County won $150,000 from a $3 Powerball ticket. According to WBTV, she bought the ticket at Murphy Express on CC Camp Road in Elkin for the April 26 drawing. Her ticket matched four white balls and the Powerball, earning her a $50,000 prize. Because she added the Power Play option, and the drawn multiplier was 3X, her prize tripled to $150,000.
Moore claimed her prize at lottery headquarters on yesterday. After taxes, she received $107,626, according to the NC Lottery.
The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are about 1 in 292 million. While Moore’s win was not the jackpot, it highlights the range of possible winnings. The NC Lottery also noted that Rowan County received $7.6 million in lottery funds last year to support education programs.
Queen City News reports that the upcoming Powerball jackpot for today is estimated at $189 million as an annuity or $83.1 million as a lump sum.
