Last Thursday, Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, in a coordinated blitz against retail crime, arrested 25 individuals and recovered stolen goods worth around $4,500. The operation, executed along SE 82nd Ave in unincorporated Clackamas County, was a part of a larger effort to clamp down on shoplifting and other criminal activities plaguing local retailers. According to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, the sting spanned 10 hours and involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Molalla and West Linn Police Departments.

Authorities set their sights on suspects as they left various establishments, aiming to directly confront and curb theft in action. The mission's haul included 124 items tagged as stolen and resulted in the clearance of 24 arrest warrants. The sheriff's office reported that "several of the subjects taken into custody were found in possession of Methamphetamine and Fentanyl." Notably, one suspect was identified and linked to a dozen thefts from the same retailer dating back to November 2024, with the value of stolen goods nearing $1,300. This individual had eluded identification in past instances but was finally apprehended through this operation.

Another arrestee brought in during the sting had allegedly lifted over $300 in goods and had a history of multiple thefts across Clackamas County throughout the last year. Details from the official press release highlight the ongoing investigations and the push to forward these cases to the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution. All efforts, including evidence collection and communication during the mission, were supported by staff, such as a Sheriff’s Office Property & Evidence Technician and a dedicated dispatcher from Clackamas 9-1-1 (C-COM).

Thursday’s retail crime mission was made possible in part by funding from the Organized Retail Theft (ORT) Grant Program, which stemmed from Oregon Senate Bill 900 passed in 2023. With these funds, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office has been enabled to better equip and staff law enforcement missions focusing on retail theft. The sheriff's office asserts that additional missions are planned for the future, signaling an ongoing commitment to addressing organized retail crime in the community.
