Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts and city officials are taking road safety seriously this May with two proclamations to reduce roadway incidents. The City Council heard the mayor declare May Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month and Distracted Driving Awareness Month in efforts to raise awareness among local drivers.

During the City Council's meeting last Thursday, Ward 2 Councilman Deanna McLaughlin presented the proclamation for Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month amidst the usual rounds of civic discourse. On the other hand, the busy month of May also brings Pitts's call for better attention to the road with the proclamation for Distracted Driver Awareness Month, presented jointly with County Mayor Wes Golden. "We want to encourage every citizen, just be aware… We have other drivers that just need you to pay attention to the road," Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts stated in a bid to urge citizens to take more care while driving, as per the City of Clarksville news release.

The campaign for greater road safety has gathered notable support. Representatives from the Clarksville Police Department, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol were present at the council meeting to endorse the proclamations.
