A homeowner residing along the St. Johns River made the grim call to authorities at 5:07 p.m., precipitating a response from law enforcement that included patrols, detectives, and a dive team to the site near the Doctors Lake bridge, as reported by the Clay County Sheriff's Office via Facebook.
Specifics of the scene came to light "around 5:07 P.M., a local homeowner called 911 regarding skeletal remains at the bulkhead of their property along the St. Johns River," according to the post by the Sheriff's Office. Officers have since cordoned off the 3200 block of US17 as they sift through the area, the night's efforts extended into a search that would continue into the following earlier today. Authorities are working not only to identify the deceased but also to ascertain the circumstances surrounding their death.
The search for clues was not restricted to the site alone, with the Sheriff's Office putting out a call to the public for information that may aid the investigation, reflecting on the notion that evidence could well come from beyond the police line tape.
