Residents of Cleveland and surrounding areas should brace for a shopping list of weather conditions as low pressure continues to affect the region. According to the National Weather Service Cleveland OH, the area can expect lingering low pressure through the end of the week, with a shift to high pressure by Saturday night.

The brief respite seen in rain showers this morning for some parts of the area is a precursor to a more dynamic afternoon, "Negative vorticity advection creating a lull in the showers for the western CWA spreading eastward," as noted by the NWS. Additionally, "Intensifying band of frontogenesis working northeastward through the CWA this morning with a line of non severe storms" will be observed. However, as the convection commences, column water loading should limit severe weather threats primarily to the onset of these conditions.

With the approach of the weekend, the forecast is not looking entirely grim. The upper-level trough and associated surface low that have been lingering over New England will finally give way to a break in precipitation Saturday night as dry air linked to an upper-level ridge moves in, though we'll still be under the grip of below average temperatures.

Looking into next week, the uncertainty prevails, "Another surface low is expected to develop over the Mid-Mississippi River Valley and track east towards the southeast," bringing chances of precipitation. Yet, there's a discrepancy in the models. While GFS and Canadian models suggest a northern trek closer to the Ohio River Valley, the ECMWF hints at a drier outcome. So, only a slight chance is in the forecast late Sunday through Tuesday. Either way, don't expect any heatwaves soon: Highs will be sticking to the 60s, with overnight lows cozy in the upper 40s to low 50s.

For mariners navigating the waters of Lake Erie, caution is advised. A Small Craft Advisory is in effect until this evening for several zones due to the east-northeast winds of 15-25 knots, resulting in waves of 4-6 feet. As the low moves out, winds will become variable before picking up from the northwest on Thursday, prompting likely further advisories. By the weekend, however, water conditions are expected to settle down alongside the weather as a tinge of high pressure takes hold.
