In a significant financial boost for Cleveland State University (CSU), the institution has received the most substantial donation ever from a single source. CSU President Laura Bloomberg announced the nearly $15 million bequest at Radiance, the University's annual donor event. This landmark donation emanates from the estate of Katherine and Walter McCombs. Walter, a proud 1976 alumnus of CSU's College of Law, has extended a grand gesture of gratitude by this contribution, which is an unmistakable nod to the scholarship he once received from the University.
According to details revealed by Cleveland State University, part of the McCombs' legacy will continue to support the Walter Lee McCombs Endowed Scholarship Fund in the College of Law, assuring that future legal minds will have access to scholarships. However, the bulk of this generous gift will fuel the newly established Katherine F. McCombs and Walter Lee McCombs Transformative Impact Fund, providing students with the much-needed financial assistance to cover a spectrum of educational expenses.
"What an extraordinary moment in Cleveland State’s history. We are so grateful for this historic gift," Bloomberg told the assembly of donors gathered at the event. To visibly honor the McCombs' generosity, CSU is set to renovate the central outdoor plaza, henceforth to be known as McCombs Family Plaza. Situated between the Student Center and Rhodes Tower, the plaza will serve as a daily reminder of the couple's deep commitment to education and their indelible imprint on the CSU community.
