According to details released by the institution, Cleveland State University is gearing up to honor more than 2,400 students at its Spring Commencement ceremonies. The recognition of academic achievements will span over several days, with the main festivities set for today, May 9, and tomorrow, May 10. A separate ceremony for law graduates will follow on Sunday, May 18. For those unable to attend in person, live streams will be accessible on CSU’s Commencement web page.

The graduating class includes a wide array of disciplines, with the university conferring 1,316 bachelor's degrees, 944 master's degrees, and 63 doctoral degrees. Doctoral candidates are to celebrate their commencement at the CSU Waetjen Auditorium on May 9, whereas bachelor's and master's ceremonies will take place at the CSU Wolstein Center the following day. "Cleveland State University is honored to award degrees to the next generation of leaders, innovators, educators and subject matter experts," Dr. Laura Bloomberg, president of CSU, told the attending audience through the Cleveland State University official website.

Highlighting the ceremonies are two valedictorians who epitomize academic dedication and community engagement. Carianna Downie, a nursing major from Geneva, maintained a near-perfect 3.97 GPA, and will speak at the morning ceremony. Downie has not only excelled in the classroom but has also been devoted to research, mentoring, and volunteer work. Post-graduation, she aims to continue to advance her education in nursing anesthesia practice after starting her career in trauma care.

In the afternoon, Chloe Amoroso will take the stage as the valedictorian speaker. Amoroso shifted her focus from art to mechanical engineering from Cleveland's Old Brooklyn neighborhood, navigating a rigorous path to academic distinction and leadership. Her pursuit of uniquely combining athletic endeavors with scholastic excellence earned her a perfect 4.00 GPA. Amoroso plans to start an internship at NASA Glenn Research Center, and she aims to perpetually push forward in her studies with a master's and eventually a Ph.D. in the field.

With the Class of 2025 about to embark on varied and promising career paths, Cleveland State University will celebrate the close of one chapter and the beginning of countless others for its graduates. As they step into new roles within various sectors of business, healthcare, engineering, and beyond, CSU sends off its students with pride and high expectations for their futures.
