In Collierville, a town that acknowledges its community pillars, a heartwarming story unfolds as one of its loyal residents receives a well-deserved gift. Longtime letter writer Jack Westbrook, whose pen has faithfully served the town since 1978, was recently surprised with a token of appreciation that ushered him into the digital era—a personal computer and tech tutorials. This gesture was not in solitude, as it represented a larger collective spirit that the town is known for.
On a visit in April, Jack Westbrook, filled with years of community service, had disclosed his aspiration to learn computer skills to Mayor Maureen Fraser. According to Collierville's official website, that moment triggered a flow of support from across the community, culminating in the surprise presentation at Collierville Burch Library a month later. Presenting the gift, Charlie Keffeler, CEO of West TN Consulting, commended Jack's dedication with the words, "What I love about your story is the ferocity in the consistency of your pride and how you turned that into something for everyone in Collierville."
The involvement of Collierville Cares, a local community group, was instrumental in broadcasting Jack's narrative and played a role in inspiring the kind gesture. Moved by the surprise, Jack entertained the audience with his humor, joking that scanning his vast collection of letters, totaling at least 200, would be quite the undertaking. Lee Ann Krueger, General Manager of Legacy Media, also took the opportunity to bridge Jack's analog passion with digital convenience, inviting him to send future correspondences via email, effectively offering him a modern avenue to express his well-noted civic pride.
Jack Westbrook is a testament to the adage that one person's consistent efforts can color the canvas of a community. As reported by Collierville's official site, his letters often highlight hardworking Town employees and elected leaders, while also capturing everyday moments worth savoring. The town, recognizing the many years Jack lifted them with his words, has now reciprocated, ensuring his voice can continue to resonate through bytes and pixels as it has through ink and paper.
