The Columbus Division of Police is reaching out to the community to request any leads on a recent homicide. The chilling incident, which snuffed out the young life of 18-year-old Au’jai Davenport, took place on Mock Rd. earlier this week. In a bid for justice and tips, authorities have taken to social media.
Responding to a call about a shooting on May 7, officers rushed to the 2000 block of Mock Rd. In transit, they received updates about a vehicle involved, spotted near Joyce Ave. and Minnesota Ave. Tragically, upon arrival, they found two individuals marred by gunfire. Both victims were quickly taken to local hospitals, but despite earnest efforts by medical staff, Davenport could not be saved. The Columbus Police Department's post provided these details, as they actively search for the vehicle linked to the crime.
Authorities have now issued a lookout for the vehicle, including a photograph in the public plea for assistance. In a situation where every second could lead to a break or spiral into another veil of silence, the detectives depend on the city's eyes and ears to bring light to the shadows that have fallen upon Mock Rd. Anyone with information regarding the suspect's vehicle or any aspect of the incident is encouraged to contact the Columbus Police Homicide Unit directly at 614-645-4730.
For those wishing to remain anonymous, there remains a beacon of hope for contribution through Central Ohio Crime Stoppers, where tips can be submitted at 614-461-TIPS (8477). As the community grapples with the weight of this loss and a family mourns a life barely begun, the call for public assistance is a testament to the belief that within the collective conscience lies the power to illuminate truth, restore order, and extend the arm of justice in the quietest of streets.
