The Columbus Division of Police is reaching out to the public, seeking help to identify a suspect in a recent assault case. The incident, which occurred last week on a COTA bus near E. 5th and Rarig Ave., was recorded on video. According to the police social media post, on April 22, around 6:57 p.m., a 68-year-old male was attacked by an unknown individual while seated on the bus.
Details provided by the Columbus Division of Police on Facebook describe the suspect as a black male between the ages of 13-18, around 5'5" in height and weighing approximately 145-150 lbs. with short hair. At the time of the assault, he was dressed in black pants and a black The North Face jacket. The suspect's act of striking the victim in the head as he exited the vehicle appeared to be unprovoked, as the elderly man did not seem to have any interaction with the group prior to the assault.
Investigators are asking anyone who might have information about the identity of the suspect to step forward. The division's Detective Rosen can be contacted directly via email at [email protected]. In addition, anonymous tips are welcome and can be submitted through Central Ohio Crime Stoppers by calling 614-461-TIPS (8477).
