On a recent Sunday night in downtown Houston, a Harris County deputy found himself in dire straits after being involved in a motorcycle crash. However, the community's quick response underscored the city's capacity for spontaneous acts of heroism. As reported by KPRC 2, the off-duty deputy was riding what appeared to be an e-bike or dirt bike when he was unexpectedly cut off by another vehicle. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on W Dallas Street, prompting the deputy to make an evasive maneuver that unfortunately led to him losing control and crashing.
The deputy, pinned beneath his bike, was not left to bear the burden alone as onlookers immediately gathered to render aid. Their quick thinking to quickly aid him likely prevented a bad situation from getting worse. According to KHOU, witnesses did not hesitate to pull the motorcycle off the injured law enforcement officer and call for medical assistance.
Houston PD Lt. JP Horelica told KPRC 2 that the officer was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital, awake but hurt. The seriousness of the injuries is still unknown. Police are asking anyone who saw what happened or has information to contact them or call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
