Drivers in Colorado should gear up for the upcoming construction work on US Highway 40 between Granby and Tabernash starting May 12. CDOT reports that the project aims to tackle a two-mile stretch for safety improvements that are set to wrap up by late October.
The agenda includes asphalt resurfacing to smooth directly both eastbound and westbound traffic lanes, shoulder widening, the installation of barriers and guardrails, along with newer signage and more efficient drainage systems. United Companies of Grand Junction holds the contract for the undertaking. "This project, along with others slated along this roadway, is designed to improve safety for local commuters and visitors to the area," CDOT Regional Transportation Director Jason Smith said, as per CDOT. Explaining further the rationale behind the timing, Smith cited increased traffic volumes and weather impacts as central factors.
For those on the move, it's important to note the logistics: work hours are set from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. Throughout the shoulder widening phase, traffic flow will continue in both directions. However, during the times of paving and striping, drivers should be ready to patiently wait through alternating lane closures, potentially facing delays up to 20 minutes. Additionally, the speed limit will drop to 45 MPH within the work zone during these times.
