A construction worker is fighting for his life following a severe incident at a Chandler job site on Wednesday afternoon, as excavations turned dangerous, leading to a trench collapse. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the incident occurred near Queen Creek and Alma School roads around 3:00 p.m., where fire crews were dispatched to a trench rescue operation on Hackberry and Sandpiper Dr.
The rescue teams found "an unconscious adult male worker" who had to be extricated from the fallen earth, according to the Chandler Fire Department, which was confirmed by ABC15. Furthermore, there were no other injuries on the scene, and the man was taken to Chandler Regional Hospital, where he remains in serious condition.
Earlier incidents have raised concerns about the safety measures in place at local construction sites. On the same day, Chandler crews had already been to another site near Cave Creek Road and Sonoran Desert Drive, responding to reports of other construction workers trapped in a collapsed trench, all of whom, thankfully, managed to self-extricate, as reported by ABC15.
