Heads up, Craig residents and commuters: Starting June 9, there's going to be a bit of construction shuffle as the Colorado Department of Transportation kicks off upgrades to traffic signals at two key intersections in your area. The work, handled by Denver's Sturgeon Electric, is slated to wrap by late August, aiming to make driving and walking around there smoother and safer.
The intersections on the docket include US Highway 40 at Ranney Street, where new pedestrian-friendly features like push buttons and video detection gear will be installed, aiming to make your wait at the lights less of a drag. Over at Colorado Highway 13 and 9th Street, they're going full makeover mode, replacing and reconstructing the current signal setup. If you're hoofing it, you’ll appreciate the new pedestrian poles and push buttons. And good news for the start of the school year crowd, this bit should be done before the bells ring in August.
Traffic impacts are a given, so plan for lane closures and shifts Monday through Friday, bright and early at 7 a.m. until the early evening at 7 p.m., according to CDOT. At the US 40 and Ranney Street intersection, they might squeeze traffic down to one lane during these times, but they've promised to leave weekends and holidays work-free. Night owls, keep an ear out for possible after-dark work schedules to be announced.
