The National Weather Service in St. Louis, MO, issued a Dense Fog Advisory effective until 8 AM CDT this morning. Widespread dense fog has blanketed the region, dropping visibility to a quarter mile or less in some areas. According to the advisory, this includes portions of south central and southwest Illinois as well as east central and southeast Missouri. The fog has created potentially hazardous driving conditions across the affected areas.
The fog is expected to dissipate later in the morning, but the NWS has also warned of isolated showers and thunderstorms later today, with a 30 percent chance of precipitation. Temperatures are forecast to reach a high near 79 with mostly cloudy skies. Motorists are urged to drive carefully, especially before the fog clears, and to be prepared to possibly adjust quickly to changing conditions.
Looking further into the week, Wednesday promises mostly sunny skies with a high of around 84, while Thursday will be partly sunny, witnessing temperatures rising even higher—up to near 92 degrees. For those marking their calendars, there's a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms rolling into the region again on Friday and over the weekend.
The NWS has not activated spotters at this time, but continues to monitor conditions for any developing weather. Residents and travelers can stay informed on the latest weather updates by checking the NWS St. Louis forecast online. It will be essential to mindfully assess the sky and be ready to alter outdoor plans as the chance of thunderstorms seems to persist through the upcoming days.
