BNSF Railway has announced a complete closure of West Alameda Avenue at Navajo Street for rail repairs, which will disrupt traffic patterns for Denver residents, particularly affecting those who rely on this thoroughfare for their daily commutes. The interruption will commence at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7, and is expected to continue until 7 p.m. on Friday, May 9, as per the information released by Denver's Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI).
Travelers are advised to seek out alternative routes. DOTI specifically recommends avoiding directly exiting Interstate 25 onto Alameda Avenue during the repair timeframe to better manage the flow of traffic and reduce the potential for congestion. Additionally, the ability to travel west on Alameda Avenue from northbound Santa Fe will be notably limited, and drivers are urged to choose an alternate path for westbound travel, according to DOTI.
Several alternate east-west routes have been proposed to the north and south of the affected area. This includes taking advantage of 6th and 8th avenues to the north or utilizing Mississippi Avenue to the south. These adjustments to daily travel are recommended to minimize delays and ensure smoother commutes around the construction zone.
