Denver residents can expect a return to warm temperatures through the coming weekend after a spate of variable weather, including some hazardous conditions, according to the latest updates from the National Weather Service (NWS). After scattered showers and thunderstorms today, which may bring heavy rain and lightning, a mostly sunny outlook with highs steadily climbing is on the horizon for the Mile High City. The NWS detailed forecast indicates today's high near 70 degrees will give way to a high near 75 by Friday, and temperatures are slated to rise to a sunny 83 by Sunday.
The variable conditions include a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 pm on Friday. However, the rest of the day is anticipated to be mostly sunny. These warmer climes follow today's earlier chilly morning temperatures that saw a wind chill of 34°F. The temperature, by Monday, is expected to reach a high near 85 degrees.
In a hazardous weather outlook released earlier by the National Weather Service, Denver residents were alerted to potential scattered snow showers in the higher elevations of the Front Range, with some light accumulation possible. This advisory underscores the city's weather pattern this time of year, where a sunny day can precede or follow bouts of snow and rain almost without warning. The forecast for the next few days, however, suggests a trend towards drier weather, although scattered showers and a couple of storms can be expected each day, mainly over the mountains.
Denver's skies are expected to clear up by tonight, with a low around 45 degrees and an east southeast wind around 6 mph. Come weekend, the city is forecasted to bask in sunlight, as the NWS foretells Sunny, with a high near 78 for Saturday, and only a little cloud cover come Sunday night. Despite the improving conditions, Denverites are encouraged to stay prepared, as spotter activation is not expected at this time, however, any snowfall reports from the foothills or mountains will be appreciated, according to the National Weather Service.
