A motorcyclist was killed in a collision involving a car on Route 982 in Derry Township, authorities confirmed last week. Shortly before 4 p.m. yesterday, the incident closed off part of the route as investigators worked the scene.
According to the Westmoreland County coroner's office, the victim of the crash was identified as Jarad R. Boyle, 49, from Derry. Boyle, who had been traveling south on the highway, collided with a northbound vehicle as it was making a left turn onto Lincoln Avenue, the corner’s report indicated. The report, which detailed these events, was relayed by WTAE.
Westmoreland County Coroner Tim Carson stated that Boyle died on the scene of the accident, further noting that the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, information that WPXI also shared. This detail about the absence of the helmet could contribute to a discussion on motorcycle safety and helmet use in the aftermath of such tragic incidents.
While the Pennsylvania State Police at the Kiski station are still investigating the cause of the collision, the county coroner is waiting on autopsy and toxicology results to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
