Two employees of a Port Orange Walgreens were recovering after being shot by a man who police say was a "disgruntled customer." According to authorities, the incident occurred last night inside the store at 1625 Taylor Road, around 5:30 p.m.. WFTV reported that following the shooting, the suspect, identified by police as 60-year-old Daniel Asseff, left the store, got into his vehicle in the Walgreens parking lot, and subsequently fatally shot himself as officers approached.

As details unfolded, it became clear that the shooting had resulted in one employee suffering a gunshot wound to the torso, while the other was hit in the foot. The former remained hospitalized in serious condition, as per an agency news release. Meanwhile, the latter employee was released from the hospital, according to an update from the Port Orange Police Department (POPD). Initially reported by WESH, there was believed to be a single customer in the store when the shooting occurred. However, POPD later clarified that several customers were inside the store and in the parking lot, none of whom were injured during the incident.

Despite the tragic events, the names of the injured employees have been kept confidential, said investigators, who continue to unravel what led to the shooting. The store, still an active crime scene, remained closed the following morning with no clear indication as to when it might reopen. Port Orange Police Department encouraged anyone with information about the case to come forward and contact the department at 386-248-1777.
