Three individuals were arrested following a disturbance at a Jacksonville City Council meeting. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office stated on a Facebook post that the meeting had to be stopped when several attendees refused to comply with the council leadership's request to leave and became disruptive.
The incidents reportedly began when individuals ignored officers' orders to leave the chamber, leading to disruptions that forced the council to halt its proceedings. During the arrests, one person was found in possession of a knife and now faces a felony charge, according to a statement from the Sheriff's Office. The other two individuals face misdemeanor charges after resisting and refusing to leave when law enforcement intervened.
The Sheriff's Office emphasized that while they respect citizens' rights to free speech and protest, the actions of these individuals violated the law. To prevent further disruption and ensure public safety, officers cleared the council chamber and stopped the meeting. As a result, the three individuals were booked into the Duval County Jail.
