On Mother's Day morning, residents and officials gathered for the 29th annual Mother's Day Walk for Peace, organized by the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute. The event focused on promoting nonviolence and supporting families affected by homicide.
This year's theme, “Cultivating Cycles of Peace,” emphasized the community’s efforts to address violence and support healing. According to WHDH, the Institute set a fundraising goal of $600,000 to provide services for survivors of homicide victims and to support youth-focused programs under the initiative known as "Generation Peace."
As per the Boston 25 News, the 3.2-mile walk began at Town Field Park, with an opening program at 8 a.m. and the walk starting at 9 a.m. Participants walked in memory of those lost to violence and to raise awareness of the impact of homicides on families and communities.
