In a recent court proceeding, 23-year-old Faduma Mohamed, the woman charged with the death of 19-year-old Cooper Schoenke in Little Five Points, was denied bond. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the Dekalb County judge labeled Mohamed as a flight risk and suggested a possibility of her committing further crimes if released.

Mohamed's chase with the Georgia State Patrol ended tragically when she reportedly ran a red light and collided with Schoenke's vehicle. Her attorney had requested a bond no higher than $75,000, however, after viewing dashcam footage which showed Mohamed's SUV speeding and dodging through traffic, the judge decided against granting bail, as per information from Atlanta News First.

This incident has a deeper backstory, involving Mohamed previously being released on bond for other felony charges, including armed robbery and kidnapping. This information comes from court documents that FOX 5 Atlanta obtained, detailing an incident from 2019 where Mohamed allegedly coordinated with men to rob a victim who believed they were meeting to hang out.

In the courtroom, Cooper Schoenke's mother, Kate Schoenke, expressed the continuing impact of her son's loss and her intent to ensure justice, "We spent a good bit of time sitting talking about Cooper, loaning space for him and seeing him," she told FOX 5 Atlanta. Additionally, she shared with the judge her perspective after witnessing the footage of the crash, "Seeing the accident, knew that she put multiple lives at risk. The extent of it is mind-boggling, seeing the full video of this chase, I don’t think she has any regard for anyone, not even herself," as reported by Atlanta News First.

Mohamed is facing serious charges that include murder, first-degree vehicular homicide, felony fleeing, and possession of a Schedule I narcotic, among others. It was also mentioned by her attorney that upon her arrest, Mohammed appeared to make a vulgar gesture towards the troopers and drugs were reportedly found in her purse, suggesting impairment during the incident.
