A routine Tuesday afternoon in East Knoxville was disrupted when a car, with its driver’s foot reportedly stuck on the accelerator, struck a pedestrian before careening into a home. The Knoxville Police Department is actively investigating the incident in the 4200 block of Holston Drive.
Details provided by WVLT indicate that the car's operator was impeded from braking due to a "booted foot" lodged on the gas pedal. The unnamed driver lost control of the vehicle, hitting a pedestrian. The force of the car continued unabated until the home itself thwarted its course.
The individual struck in this unfortunate chain of events has sustained injuries that, while requiring medical attention at UT Medical Center, are not considered life-threatening according to police statements. The source, WATE, noted the pedestrian’s condition and confirmed the driver and those within the home did not suffer injuries during the chaos.
As for the struck residence, there was no immediate word on the extent of the damage or if any structural compromises occurred due to the impact. Fortunately, residents inside the home at the time of the crash were reported to be unharmed. The mishap has raised inevitable questions about vehicular safety and the rare but serious implications of a driver’s inability to decelerate, with WBIR stating the driver and occupants of the home "will be OK."
