A DUI suspect has been fatally stabbed after an altercation with a Clark County deputy at a weigh station on I-5 near Ridgefield, as per the authorities. The incident, which escalated at the station's Scale House facility where deputies intended to administer a breath-alcohol test, occurred late on Tuesday night.
Following a crash that involved a vehicle colliding with two parked cars near Northeast 14th Court and Northeast Minnehaha Street in Vancouver, deputies responded to the scene just before 11 p.m. KOIN reports.
The fatal encounter between the suspect and the deputy happened roughly an hour later inside the breath-test room. "The deputy reported that the subject had attempted to take his firearm during the altercation, and the deputy stabbed the suspect several times," the Clark County Sheriff’s Office detailed in a statement, which was reported by OregonLive.
Despite the efforts of deputies administering first aid, the suspect succumbed to the injuries at the scene. The deputy encountered no injuries during the incident and has since been placed on critical incident leave, with the Washington State Office of Independent Investigations taking over the case. As OPB outlines, the sheriff’s office assures that footage from the deputy’s body-worn and in-car cameras will be reviewed and made available to the public later.
