Nashville's weather is setting the stage for a week of fluctuation, where rain seems to be the recurring theme. Per the National Weather Service in Nashville, the city was greeted with overcast skies and a steady temperature reading at 64°F early this morning. The air felt heavy with 81% humidity, as a south wind meandered by at 10 mph.
A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms was reported overnight, with new rainfall amounts expected to be light, under a tenth of an inch generally, but potentially higher in areas affected by thunderstorms. The NWS indicates that Saturday will bring more showers and a possible thunderstorm before 2pm. After which, the chance of showers and storms persists. The likelihood of rain is pegged at 90%, with anticipated new rainfall reaching between a half and three quarters of an inch. The wind on Saturday is expected to pick up speed, shifting from south southwest to northwest in the afternoon.
As we head into Saturday night, the area will see a minor reprieve, with only a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8pm. However, the clouds seem reluctant to part, leaving the area mostly cloudy and cool, with temperatures dipping to around 52°F. The forecast doesn't suggest any significant clearing, as tomorrow forecasts a 60% chance of showers, particularly between 1pm and 4pm, with gusts reaching up to 20 mph.
Looking further ahead, the week doesn't promise a dry spell anytime soon according to the NWS prediction. Monday carries a 30 percent chance of showers, while Tuesday is expected to brighten up with sunshine and a warm high near 76°F. Yet, this glimpse of clear skies is short-lived with showers predicted to return Tuesday night. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday continue with a see-saw pattern of showers and partly sunny skies, showcasing a quintessential spring weather battle in the heart of Tennessee.
For those in Nashville, it seems the umbrellas and raincoats won't be going back into the closet just yet. NWS advises residents to prepare for a wet week ahead and to stay updated on the latest weather conditions.
