Knoxville residents can look forward to an upcoming community-focused safety initiative as multiple East Tennessee law enforcement agencies team up to host a Child Safety Seat Event. Scheduled for this Saturday at Knoxville's Chilhowee Park, the event promises to help parents and guardians ensure their children's safety while on the road. Blount County Sheriff James Lee Berrong said, "It is an opportunity to ensure the child’s safety seat fits your vehicle, your child, and ensure it is safely and securely anchored in the vehicle," as per the Blount County Sheriff's Office.

The effort, announced by the Blount County Sheriff's Office, is to take place on May 10 from 10 am until 2 pm at 516 N. Beaman Street, where trained and certified technicians from various local departments, including those from Knox and Oak Ridge, will be available to assist. Not only will they be correctly installing child car seats, but they aim also to educate on the proper use of these vital safety devices.

Those who miss out on this weekend's clinic will have another chance later in the month when the Blount County Sheriff's Office hosts an event at Walland Elementary School on May 24. Families can arrive between 9 am and 12 pm for similar safety seat checkups and installations.

The importance of these clinics cannot be overstated; a well-fitted and properly installed car seat can significantly reduce the risk of injury or death in a collision. Parents and caregivers should take advantage of these free opportunities to learn how to not only choose the right safety seats for their children but also to install them properly in their vehicles. Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office has indicated that these events will continue throughout the year, providing multiple occasions for local residents to ensure their little ones travel safely.

For more information on upcoming Child Safety Seat clinics and other community engagement initiatives, Knoxville locals can follow updates on the Blount County Sheriff's Office Facebook page and website. These events, strategically scattered from February through November at different locations in Blount County, underline the agencies' commitment to the well-being of the community's youngest members.
