Golfers, mark your calendars and please note the temporary closure of a local favorite: KickingBird Golf's course will not be open to the public from May 4th to May 7th. This Edmond's public golf course is setting the stage for the 2025 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Central Regional tournament, as reported by the City of Edmond. The Lookout restaurant will remain the singular beacon open for those wishing to catch a glimpse of the practice rounds and tournament play, from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
It's a moment of pride for the local golfing community, as KickingBird Golf celebrates its second hosting of a Division II regional tournament. Last year bore witness to the men's division, but this year, it's all about the women's golf. Brian Soerensen, the Director of Golf there, expressed excitement about the four-day event: "We are very excited for the opportunity to host the Central Regional featuring some of the top women’s golfers in Division II," he said in an statement obtained by the City of Edmond. Soerensen also hopes to "provide the players, coaches and spectators with an exceptional experience."
With the first swing set to cut through silence at 8 a.m. on May 5, KickingBird Golf will host 18 teams and 6 individual qualifiers, all vying for a chance to progress to the National Championship. The list of participating teams reads like a who's who of Central Regional golf powerhouses, including local team Central Oklahoma, Central Missouri, and Arkansas Tech, among others. Individual competitors named are talents like Romane Lacoste and Agathe Lacoste of Northwestern Oklahoma State and Haley Whittern of Southern Nazarene, as reported by the City of Edmond.
The competition is a grueling 54-hole affair culminating in the potential advancement of the top four teams. The lucky top two individuals not on an advancing team will also proceed to the championship rounds. The stakes are indeed high, as the subsequent championships loom close on May 13-17 at the picturesque Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.
