This suspension of service comes as the Southwest Florida Water Management District is set to perform a partial drawdown of the Medard Reservoir for testing purposes. According to a Hillsborough County announcement, the testing is scheduled to begin next Saturday, and involves lowering the water level by about 3 to 4 feet to assess the effectiveness of the new drainage system.
While the main boat ramp faces closure, paddlers who move through the water under the power of their own arms with canoes and kayaks can still find solace, as the decreased water level should not interfere with their access. The 700-acre body of water, lying within the embrace of Hillsborough County, has offered solace to many seeking respite from the hustle of urban life, yet during this period, larger vessels will be left in wait as the reservoir's level descends.
It's critical for park visitors to note that the water management district, owning the property that includes the reservoir, has not set a clear timeline for when the water will return to normal operating levels.
