El Dorado County is stepping up its defense against wildfire threats, and residents are invited to weigh in. The county's Office of Wildfire Preparedness and Resilience, working alongside the El Dorado County Fire Safe Council, has unveiled a draft of its 2025 Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP), aiming to identify wildfire risks, zero in on priority areas for fuel reduction, and specify actions to boost wildfire preparedness and resilience, according to the El Dorado County recent announcement.

The plan, once finalized and ratified, will not only serve as a roadmap for enhancing the county's defensibility against wildfires but will also act as a key to State and federal funds that will subsidize projects designed to safeguard homes and neighborhoods, such projects include vigilant maintenance of defensible space, structural fortifications to make homes more impervious to wildfire, and tactical vegetation management to curb the fury of potential fires Tanya Harlow, El Dorado County Fire Safe Coordinator, highlighted the locally-driven, cooperative essence of the CWPP in a statement obtained from the El Dorado County's website.

Residents have until June 9, to submit their thoughts on the draft plan via email at [email protected]. In an effort to provide clarity and engage with the community, the county has scheduled two virtual workshops; these sessions will be hosted through Zoom and participants can join either on Tuesday, May 20, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, or on Thursday, May 29, during the same evening hour, more details can be found, including links and access codes, on the El Dorado County's press release.

“This plan is the result of a coordinated and collaborative effort over the last year between fire safe councils, agencies, and individual neighborhoods and truly reflects how we are working together in El Dorado County to protect our homes and communities from wildfires,” Ken Pimlott, Chair of the El Dorado County Fire Safe Council, noted through a statement reported by the El Dorado County. The plan is indeed a comprehensive strategy forged from the collective input and expertise of various stakeholders who deeply understand the landscape and the pervasive menace of wildfires that could, if left unchecked, ravage the pastoral beauty and livelihoods woven into El Dorado County's fabric.

Valuable information on the CWPP and other wildfire preparedness activities can be explored on El Dorado County’s Office of Wildfire Preparedness and Resilience website, a hub for anyone seeking to understand or contribute to the county's ongoing efforts to repel the ominous specter of wildland fires.
