El Paso High School's student-athlete Miles Westbrook is making headlines again, but this time off the track. Westbrook has teamed up with the Healthy Over Hungry Cereal Drive, a city-wide initiative that targets childhood hunger within the El Paso community. This annual campaign, which accepts cereal and monetary donations until May 16, is spearheaded by El Pasoans Fighting Hunger and receives support from The Hospitals of Providence.
Community figures gathered for a publicly spirited cereal-eating contest, held yesterday, to raise awareness about the initiative. Westbrook, known for his recent victory at the UIL Track and Field State Meet, was among the participants. “When I was asked to join, I had to do it. I'm always up for some friendly competition,” Westbrook said, as per El Paso ISD News. "Overall, I think this event is a great way to promote food insecurity in our community,” he explained, emphasizing the event's larger goal to positively impact the lives of young people facing hunger.
Westbrook's involvement brings a spotlight to the persistent issue of food insecurity, especially among children, in El Paso. The Healthy Over Hungry Cereal Drive offers a direct line of support to local families in need. By providing breakfast options for students, the drive ensures that children have access to the essential daily nutrition necessary to wholly engage in their education and development.
