It was a day of exploration and discovery for the safety patrol students from Rojas Elementary School, who were allowed to dive into the world of public safety with a tour hosted by deputies from the Peter J. Herrera Patrol Station. El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte shared on the department's Facebook page, "This morning, deputies from the Peter J. Herrera Patrol Station hosted Rojas Elementary safety patrol students for a fun and informative tour." The students were provided a unique, hands-on experience, gaining insights into the workings of various safety services.
In partnership with Constable Garcia’s Office, Animal Welfare, and Fire Marshals from ESD2, the event aimed to foster an understanding of how different agencies collaborate to ensure community welfare. The interaction was not just academic, it offered a tangible glimpse into the daily routines and responsibilities that these public servants shoulder, sometimes the lives of a hundred disparate souls can hinge on the decisions of these individuals, they work, tirelessly it seems, to ensure that emergencies, big and small, are managed with expertise and care. Students were shown an aspect of civic engagement that is often unseen but integral to their everyday security.
The Sheriff's office and its partners expressed their gratitude to those who helped in making this event a success. El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte stated, "Thank you to our partners for helping inspire the next generation of public servants." It is an initiative that resonates with community-building efforts, aiming to instill respect and perhaps spark interest among children in pursuing careers that contribute to the betterment of society.
