An elderly Valrico man was fatally struck by two vehicles while crossing State Road 60 in Valrico late last night. The incident occurred close to Taho Circle, east of Strawberry Ridge Boulevard, around 9:20 p.m., as reported by FOX13News.
According to WFLA, the Florida Highway Patrol informed that the 68-year-old man was not utilizing a crosswalk to safely cross the busy roadway when he walked into the path of an eastbound Toyota Corolla, driven by a 52-year-old man from Dover. The pedestrian was struck by the Corolla and then, immediately after, by a Toyota Camry driven by a 26-year-old woman from Zephyrhills to also attempt to travel eastbound on the same road. Both vehicles remained at the scene and the drivers cooperated with the subsequent police investigation.
Emergency responders declared the elderly man dead at the scene of the crash, as noted by TampaFP. Following the incident, the eastbound portion of SR-60 was closed for several hours early this morning to facilitate an on-site investigation. The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the details surrounding the crash to fully understand the circumstances that led to this event.
