A kangaroo making an unusual dash for freedom along a busy road in St. Cloud was safely captured, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) confirmed. The adventurous marsupial's escapade briefly turned Hickory Tree Road near Harmony into the backdrop for a scene straight out of the Australian Outback. Captured by resident Kaila Mullins, the kangaroo’s escapade was caught on video as it hopped along the road before ducking under a fence into nearby farmland, FOX 35 reported.

FWC dispatched a Captive Wildlife Investigator to the scene after receiving multiple kangaroo sightings on Monday. The animal was discovered about an hour later in a wooded area, where it was promptly chemically immobilized. According to a statement by the FWC detailed by ClickOrlando, assistance came from another licensed kangaroo facility owner, which likely helped to quickly identify the animal's hiding spot.

While the kangaroo is now safely housed at a local facility and confirmed to be in good health by a veterinarian, the owner remains a mystery. The FWC is actively investigating the matter to track down the owner, as kangaroos are classified as Class III wildlife in Florida and require a permit to be kept legally.
