A foot chase involving Fairfield police and a suspect accused of shoplifting ended with the help of a K9 in a recent incident. The Fairfield, CA Police Department shared details of last Saturday's event on social media, stating that officers were called to a business on Travis Boulevard after receiving reports of a man and a woman involved in active shoplifting. Responding to the call at around 4:39 PM, the male suspect fled on foot when officers attempted to make contact.
The chase led to the suspect, later identified as 44-year-old James Cargill, dropping a backpack which was found to contain approximately 230 grams of suspected methamphetamine, a loaded handgun, and $2,700 in cash. Attempting to locate the fleeing individual quickly, officers set up a perimeter with assistance from the Special Operations Team. It wasn't long before Cargill was spotted again, but he chose to run for a second time.
The conclusive arrest was the result of teamwork by Officer Brightwell and K9 Drako, who successfully captured Cargill. The Fairfield Police Department's post didn't specify the business involved in the initial shoplifting report or provide further details on the woman who was reported to be acting with Cargill.
Cargill is now facing a series of charges based on the items found in the backpack. The charges include firearm and narcotic-related felonies, as well as a violation of Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS).
