A tragic crash involving an ACCESS LYNX bus and a Tesla in Orange County has left one dead and three others injured, according to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol. The incident occurred yesterday afternoon at the intersection of West Wetherbee Road and Isle of Wright Drive around 2:30 p.m. ClickOrlando detailed the events leading up to the collision, stating that the driver of the Tesla was traveling above the speed limit when approaching a slower vehicle, triggering a fatal chain of reactions.
While attempting to overtake the slower vehicle, the 2017 Tesla Model X driver lost control, veering into the left turn lane where the ACCESS LYNX bus was simultaneously heading. In a statement detailed by WFTV, troopers stated that the front right of the Tesla struck the back of the Lynx bus, resulting in the bus overturning onto its side and then landing upright, partially on the sidewalk and roadway. The 75-year-old bus passenger, taken to the Osceola Regional Medical Center following the crash, was pronounced dead.
The bus driver and two other passengers sustained injuries in the crash. A 48-year-old Kissimmee man driving the bus and a 27-year-old Kissimmee man, who was a passenger, were both transported to hospitals with minor injuries. The driver of the Tesla, a 35-year-old Orlando man, experienced serious injuries and was also taken as a trauma alert to the Osceola Regional Medical Center. WFTV reported that there is currently a roadblock in both directions on Wetherbee Road as the investigation continues into the circumstances of the crash.
