A tragic event unfolded in North Las Vegas on Sunday afternoon when a black Mercedes-Benz SUV was involved in a rollover crash resulting in one fatality and leaving another person with serious injuries. The incident occurred around Camino Al Norte and Edna Crane Avenue, as reported by News 3 LV.
According to the North Las Vegas Police Department (NLVPD), officers received the call at 12:04 p.m. and quickly responded to the scene. The male driver, a 32-year-old man, was found unresponsive inside the vehicle and was later pronounced dead at the scene. In their initial findings, NLVPD investigators indicated that the SUV was going "at an extremely high rate of speed" when it apparently lost control, veering off the road to eventually become airborne and strike several boulders before it came to rest, overturned, on its roof. This account was confirmed in statements obtained by both News 3 LV.
A 29-year-old female passenger was also found at the site with serious injuries and was promptly transported to the University Medical Center for treatment. Though the Clark County Coroner's Office has yet to determine if impairment was a contributing factor to the accident, speed is suspected by authorities to have played a significant role in the crash.
As the NLVPD Major Collision Investigation Unit takes over to thoroughly investigate, they are urging anyone who might have information about the collision to come forward and assist by contacting the NLVPD at 702-633-9111. For those wishing to remain anonymous, there is also an option to contact Crime Stoppers of Nevada by phone at 702-385-5555, or online at their website.
