In Lake Matthews, a suspenseful confrontation between a suspected intruder and a homeowner resulted in a fatality late Thursday night. According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to an emergency call from the 16000 block of Hidden Peak Lane at approximately 11:03 p.m. after being alerted of a suspicious person attempting to break into a residence.
During the incident, the homeowner, who was armed, fired upon the suspect after he forced entry into the home. Despite the homeowner's aggressive response to the break-in, the suspect succumbed to gunshot injuries. Following the shooting, paramedics pronounced the suspect dead at the scene. While the identity of the deceased has been withheld, pending notification to his family, authorities have launched a full homicide investigation.
Responding deputies secured the area, and Sergeant Alberto Loureiro from the Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit was requested and assumed the lead on the case. As detailed in their report, the homeowner was taken to the Lake Matthews Sheriff’s Station for further questioning.
