A tragic collision on Capital Boulevard/US 1 in Wake Forest claimed the life of a woman late Tuesday night. According to the report from Wake Forest officials, around 11:15 p.m., authorities responded to a devastating three-vehicle crash near Star Road.
Upon arrival, officers found one female fatally injured, who subsequently died from her sustained trauma. The Wake Forest Police, supported by the NC State Highway Patrol, discovered that three other individuals, suffering serious injuries, were meanwhile transported to a nearby hospital. The highway was shut down, amid the darkness until about 3:45 a.m., to allow for a thorough investigation into the wreck that unfolded before them.
The preliminary findings, obtained by local authorities, suggest a scenario in which one driver was heading southbound in the northbound lane, ultimately leading to the harrowing collision with two other vehicles. As a result of this wrong-way maneuver, law enforcement is considering charges against the at-fault driver, though details about potential charges are still pending.
The impact of the accident was severe enough that all northbound lanes of the Boulevard were closed for more than four hours, causing significant overnight disruptions. Motorists were advised to seek alternative routes until the road was cleared and reopened in the early morning hours. Investigators from the State Highway Patrol were brought in to help piece together how this chaotic incident, turning a stretch of highway into a scene of destruction and loss, came to pass.
