Shocking allegations surface from FDC Philadelphia, where a correctional officer has been indicted on charges connected with the sexual abuse of an inmate. In an announcement, United States Attorney David Metcalf confirmed the arrest of Michael Jefferson, a 42-year-old officer from Cherry Hill, New Jersey. According to the Department of Justice, Jefferson faces multiple charges, including aggravated sexual abuse and violating an inmate's civil rights.
Details of the indictment state that Jefferson allegedly attempted to and did engage a victim in sexual acts by force on July 6, 2024, an act which resulted in bodily injury to the victim. The charges suggest Jefferson abused his position of authority to quickly subject the inmate to cruel and unusual punishment, violating constitutional rights meant to protect even those behind bars. Currently suspended from his duties, Jefferson could face life imprisonment if convicted of the offenses.
