The Florida Highway Patrol continues to search for leads in a highway shooting that took place earlier in May on I-4. The incident unfolded last Sunday, around 6:30 a.m. when a dark sedan opened fire on a Ford Edge and subsequently, a Chevrolet Tahoe—one of which was hit below the front door handle on the driver's side, as the suspects' vehicle continued to escalate its menacing chase, firing upon both vehicles with .40 caliber bullets, as per WFLA.
After the initial confrontation, the sedan pursued the Tahoe onto US-301, continuing their onslaught and ultimately leading to the Tahoe's collision with a utility pole near Franklin Road, WTSP detailed. The episode took a more perilous turn after the crash when two masked individuals from the sedan hunted down the fleeing Tahoe occupants, who despite the odds stacked against them, managed to avoid the assailants, escaping with only minor injuries attributed to the crash itself.
Authorities have confirmed that despite the hail of gunfire, there were no injuries from the shots fired—a slice of fortune amidst the chaos. Yet as the suspects remain unfound and the dark-colored sedan that carried terror that morning is yet to be identified, the FHP has issued a call for public assistance, urging anyone with information to come forth.
Those with tips on the event can reach out to the FHP directly by dialing *FHP (*347) or contacting Crime Stoppers at **TIPS, according to ABC Action News.
