The legal system is now actively seeking a former judge who stepped outside the law. Ex-Mecklenburg County Superior Court Judge Charles "Casey" Viser is currently wanted after failing to show up for a scheduled court appearance yesterday. Viser, 52, faces charges for cocaine possession and was expected to face the consequences of his actions before the court.
According to a report by QC News, the absence prompted the presiding judge to issue a bench warrant for his arrest. Viser found himself under the glare of the law last month when he was charged with two counts of felony possession of cocaine and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. It seems the path to justice for Viser will now have to move through finding him once again.
An arrest order has also been reported by WCNC, which details that Viser was initially stopped and arrested on April 14 after being pulled over for displaying fake registration plates. The officer discovered 0.2 grams of cocaine in Viser's car, leading to his arrest and a subsequent bond, which he promptly posted. His failure to appear at yesterday's hearing has led to a forfeiture of his $2,500 bond and a renewed search for his whereabouts.
Furthermore, WSOCTV noted that the former judge, who resigned from his post in June 2022 for reasons unknown, had been found with not only cocaine and drug paraphernalia but also an open container of alcohol at the time of his April arrest.
Viser, elected for an eight-year term in 2020, has had his final judgment date scheduled for September 29.
