In the City of Galt, a 9-year-old girl named Britney had her bicycle stolen from her home. The Galt Police Department recovered the bike and returned it to her. The department shared details of the event in a recent social media post.
A Galt police officer recognized a stolen bicycle during a routine call after previously seeing an online post about it on a local neighborhood page. The bike was found with an unhoused man. Police said, "We were able to contact Britney’s family and surprise her by returning the bike to her." They added, "Seeing her reaction when the bike was returned was a powerful reminder of the impact we can have, especially for the youth in our community," as reported by the Galt Police Department.
According to the Galt Police Department on their Facebook page, officers cited an unhoused man for a misdemeanor after finding him with a bicycle. The individual was subsequently released. This action reflects the department's approach to community policing and enforcement of laws related to property and public safety.
